When we manually add contacts to CiviCRM, we go step by step: Summary tab, Contributions tab, then Membership tab. The Rabbi asked why, once a member has made a donation and it has been entered into CiviCRM under the Contributions tab, is it not automatically propagated to the Membership tab to set him or her as a certain member type?
I am not entirely convinced we want this functionality, because it may be more flexible to let the CiviCRM administrator choose what type of membership a user should be granted, regardless of their actual donation amount. (The Rabbi has given memberships to some donors who did not meet the $100 threshold, and will do so on occasion in the future.) Alternately, if we make it automatic, a manual override should always remain possible.
